General information

Belarusian-Polish Euroregion “Belovezhskaya Puscha” was founded on May 22, 2002 in Haynuvka (Republic of Poland).

In the same year it was registered in Ministry of foreign affairs of Poland and in Ministry of foreign affairs of Belarus.

Euroregion “Belovezhskaya Puscha” unites: from Belarusian side – Kamenets, Pruzhany, Svisloch districts, from Polish side – Haynuvka poviet.

Territory of the Euroregion is about 7,5 thousand sq.km.
Population of the Euroregion is 174,7 thousand people.
Cities of the Euroregion: Pruzhany, Kamenets (Republic of Belarus), Haynuvka, Kleschel (Republic of Poland)

Euroregion “Belovezhskaya Puscha” shows its willingness to friendly mutually beneficial cross-border cooperation on the territory of Belarus and Poland, where a Unique complex of relict woods of Belovezhskaya Puscha is located.

Brief information about natural and economic peculiarities of the Euroregion:

The name of the Euroregion, on its own, tells that the main natural attraction of the Euroregion is unique, the biggest wood of Europe, Belovezhskaya Puscha.

Average age of trees in Belovezhskaya Puscha is more than 100 years, separate parts of the wood have average age 250—350 years. There are more than a thousand trees-giants registered in Belovezhskaya Puscha.

Belovezhskaya Puscha has the largest number of various species of animals and plants in whole Europe.

Puscha has well-developed tourist infrastructure: numerous places for rest, ethnographic museum-reserve of forest road, observation platform, observation tower, bridges and educational tables.

Euroregion has function of attraction money from European funds for solving regional problems, and by this, improving chances of local authorities to achieve many goals of regional importance.

Belovezhskaya Puscha – unique, all-European value, integrated ecological organism and monument, which shall be an object of each-and-every person care.

Activities of the Euroregion:

  • Protection of environment and rational use of natural resources;
  • Cross-border ecological and cultural tourism;
  • Social, economic, cultural, scientific and educational cooperation on border territories;
  • Preservation of unique natural complex of Belovezhskaya Puscha, which, to great extend, determines climate of the continent.

Since 2003 representatives of the Euroregion take part in Belarusian-Polish intergovernmental coordination committee for cross-border cooperation.

  • Project «Strengthening of positions of public associations in Belarus».

  • Project of regional programme UNDP “Ecologically sustainable development of Belovezhskaya Puscha region: combination of nature protection and sustainable development ».

  • Project TACIS «Strengthening of cross-border cooperation leading to regional development of Belovezhskaya Puscha territory, basing on the principles of collaboration and sustainability”. Main goal of the project – ecological education and development of ecological and agrarian tourism.

  • Project «Development of cross-border tourism in Belovezhskaya Puscha region» – Neighborhood CBC programme Poland-Belarus-Ukraine Interreg III A/Tacis 2004–2006. Project’s goal was designing of cross-border tourist routs, teaching and training of hotel personnel, tourism marketing.

  • Project «Baltic net of Euroregions - East» - Neighborhood programme “Baltic Sea Region” INTERREG III B.

Sources of finance:

Financing of projects is being made on European Commission funds and funds of other donors.

More over, on financing, received from Small Projects Fund, managed by Association of self-government of Euroregion “Belovezhskaya Puscha” (Poland), Polish organizations implemented mini-projects together with Belarusian partners.

Also Euroregion took part in regional programme UNDP for development of managing potential in the sphere of nature protection and within the project “Ecologically sustainable development of Belovezhskaya Puscha region: combination of nature protection and sustainable development».
